The War of the Worlds.

A scorching hot day today & I normally head for the coast on really hot days, but I thought I would head up into the hills for a change, so decided to head up to the Aikengall & Crystal Rig windfarms & take in some of the amazing scenery high up in the hills, although the views I personally think have been spoilt by an over population of wind turbines ! Looks more like a scene from the film 'War of the Worlds'...
Direction signs for both wind farms I'm heading for Aikengall first.
& that is Crystal Rig up in the hills, which will be my return route.
Following the farm road to Aikengall, a great close to home area for camping for a night or two, but look out for snakes Aikengall is locally famous for it's Adder population !

Some of the local livestock & looking back the way I came.
Old farm sheds next to holding pens.

Entering through the gate into the wind farm road.
Wot ewe looking at ?
A lovely view along the Sheeppath Glen.
I love the names of the wood plantations around the area, this one is called the Cockit Hat Wood, I often wonder how they were given these names ? Just a guess but maybe the man who planted this wood wore a hat that was tilted to the side but who knows !
Looking over to the Monynut Edge.

Now at the top everywhere you look all you can see are these eco friendly eyesores ! But on the plus side their presence has created lots of new tracks for mountain biking.

Hundreds of them all over the horizon, Their height to the tip is 125 meters.
Leaving the Aikengall site via a path through the heather made by sheep to the roadside & entering the Monynut Forest.
An old sheep cairn used by sheep farmers to check their stock.

Boiling hot in the shelter of the trees feels like there is no air.
One of my favourite old sign posts with the place name plaques removed & replaced by ...
...this !!!
The post manufacturer stamped on the base of the old post.

Out of the Monynut Forest & back to big open views.

Spotted these Hares chasing each other about the 2 at the back are males which are called 'bucks' & chasing the front one which is a female called a 'doe', they didn't seem to bothered that I was there, think they had other things on their mind.

More views of wind turbines spoiling the views.

More big views on a braw summers afternoon.
 The Bothwell Burn

Now heading towards Crystal Rig & going up hill again.
Th way to go.
Spotted this sign in a field next to the road, checked the GPS & found that it leads you up to Crystal Rig wind farm avoiding the road.

Crossing the Bothwell Burn (top) & the track going up into the trees again.

Amazing views today.
Don't think this picnic site is used too much.

Bottom photo wouldn't look out of place in one of the alpine country's.

Information board about the wind turbines & now again out of the trees & into the open.
The Hares today are being very obliging for their photos !

Zoomed in pictures of Dunbar (top) the Bass Rock (middle) & North Berwick Law (bottom) all looking very hazy in the heat of the afternoon, & almost home.
Now on the pylon road, all downhill to Innerwick.
Bluebells smiling in the sunshine.

Nearly there I can almost smell the coffee.
Now I can smell the coffee home sweet home in Innerwick.
Hope you all enjoyed the photos until next time cheers.
