Wildcamp : Spartleton Sunset & Sunrise

A week off on holiday from work & I was meant to be cycling the Rob Roy Way long distance route, all prepared & ready to go but unfortunately my old Grandmother has taken ill & admitted to hospital so it didn't seem right to be away for the best part of a week.

So what to do on my week off then...?
...Go camping local overnight, not quite the same but none the less great to be away in the middle of nowhere. My chosen destination was a trek up to Spartleton Hill to watch both the sunset & sunrise. Spartleton Hill is the highest of the Lammermuir hills local to me albeit a 12 mile uphill cycle to get there but worth every hard fought breath in the evening heat for its 360 degree views...
...picture time !

So after double checking that I had packed all the essentials, I ate my dinner then head off uphill for Spartleton Hill.

Up through the woods of Crichness Law emerging onto the Crystal Rig wind farm road where I first catch sight of Spartleton Hill.

Some views along the way.

With the shadows getting longer in the lowering sun there's just one more push to the top.

Slow & steady, head down then as if by magic I'm a the top, so now to pitch up & get the water on to boil.

Accommodation sorted for the night...
...water on the boil for a coffee...

...and time to drink my coffee, take some pictures of these amazing views & enjoy the last sunset of May before turning in for the day.

Alarm set for 04:20 to catch the first sunrise of June & it was worth the early rise to take some photos before heading back into the sleeping bag for another couple of hours shut eye.

After tossing & turning with a broken sleep due to all the birdsong from Grouse, Lapwings, Skylarks, Curlews, Cuckoo's & even Bumble Bees buzzing around it was time to get up & get the breakfast on the stove.

Sausage & egg rolls washed down with a mug of coffee, I cant think of anywhere better to enjoy my breakfast.

All packed up & ready to head for home taking time to grab some pictures looking North, South, East & West.

The Whiteadder reservoir on the other side of the hill.

Far in the distance, zoomed in shots of the Bass Rock & North Berwick Law.

A nice warm clear Sunday morning.

Leaving the wind farm through the White Cleugh woods.

A sheep & looking down the Sheeppath Glen.

All down hill from here back to Innerwick where a nice hot bath followed by a mug of tea await.
Hope you enjoyed the views from Spartleton Hill & thanks for looking.
Cheers for now.
